5 Years of HRB Open Research in 5 Minutes
Presenter: Hannah Wilson
Life & Health Sciences Publisher at F1000
Abstract
Launched in 2018, HRB Open Research is a diamond open access publishing venue offering HRB-funded researchers an alternative publishing route for a variety of research outputs, increasing the sharing of results and thus reducing research waste and duplication, as well as rising publishing costs.
Since launch, HRB Open Research has published over 400 articles from researchers across Ireland and global collaborators. This lightning talk will examine the growth of HRB Open Research, including who is using it and how, putting these figures in the context of broader publication trends in the Irish health and social care research community.
Reaching this point of adoption among the community was not straightforward, with HRB Open Research presenting a new publication method of transparent post-publication peer review, plus open data sharing requirements that go beyond those of most journals. This talk will examine the community’s response to the Platform’s launch, explore the steps taken to establish HRB Open Research and build engagement, as well as some of the barriers to uptake and how these have been addressed.
