ABOARD is a NORF-funded project dedicated to advancing Open Research (OR), Responsible Research Assessment (RRA) and the Use of Responsible Research Metrics (RRM) across Ireland, in alignment with the National Action Plan for Open Research 2022-2030. The project aims to develop a clear and actionable process that fosters coherent, system-wide incentivisation.
How can you contribute?
ABOARD recently surveyed researchers on their levels of awareness and their readiness and appetite for change in relation to the incentivisation of OR, RRA, and RRM, revealing a strong demand for further activity and better alignment in recognition and reward practices.
In the next phase, researchers are invited to attend Collective Intelligence Workshops to discuss future incentivization practices. The workshops will generate a set of Declarative Statements on OR, RRA, and RRM, which will contribute to a position paper and recommendations to DFHERIS, shaping national policy.
What is involved?
There will be three half-day workshops (11AM – 3PM) – one for each of the following researcher cohorts:
Workshop for AHSS Researchers: March 26th, 11AM – 1PM
Workshop for Early-Career-Researchers: April 2nd, 11AM – 1PM
Workshop for STEM Researchers: April 10th, 11AM – 1PM
If you are interested in participating, please register using this form.
Interdisciplinary researchers may select the workshop which represents the disciplinary area of the preponderance of their research effort. You don’t have to be an Open Research enthusiast to participate, a broad range of viewpoints are welcome.
More information:
- Locations are yet to be finalised, the workshops will be held either in Cork or in Dublin, depending on participants’ preference and availability.
- All workshops will be facilitated by Michael Foley, Civic Engagement for Societal Impact Manager (Trinity College Dublin).
- Lunch will be provided.
- A number of train bursaries will be available, interest in a bursary can be indicated via the workshop sign-up form. In case of high demand preference will be given to early-career researchers and academics (<7 years post-PhD).
- Workshop Size: The aim is to have approx. 20 participants per workshop, but in the case of oversubscription, not everyone who expresses interest may be accepted. If this occurs, those who will best ensure that the workshops comprise a representative mix of academic disciplines, career stages, gender, region and type of institution will be selected. Anyone not selected will be invited to participate in the next phase of our project: a capstone event (planned for early 2026) at which the Declarative Statements and overall recommendations for the incentivisation of Open Research practices will be finalised.
