On 22 October 2024, during Maynooth University’s Research Week, the NORF-funded project QSA*Net: Promoting Open Research in Qualitative Social Science co-hosted a hybrid event titled ‘Current Open Research Initiatives at Maynooth University’.
The event showcased projects advancing open research, with speakers from across the university sharing their insights and initiatives. The QSA*Net project leaders, Professor Jane Gray and Dr. Rong Bao from the Maynooth University Social Sciences Institute, highlighted how the project is working to foster the re-use and sharing of qualitative data. Funded under the NORF Open Research Fund (Strand II: Open Research Stimulus Call 2023) QSA*Net is committed to enhancing collaborative, open data practices within the social sciences.
Other highlights from the event included:
-Dr. Dermot Lynott, Department of Psychology introduced TRaining for OPen research in an Irish Context (TROPIC), a NORF-funded program designed to equip Irish researchers with essential open research skills.
-Dr. Ian Marder, School of Law and Criminology, discussed the NORF-funded Criminal justice Open Research Dialogue (CORD) and emphasised policy engagement as a vital part of open research.
-Fran Callaghan, Maynooth University Library, provided an update on the Irish Qualitative Data Archive (IQDA)‘s initiatives to enhance access to and preservation of qualitative data at Maynooth.
