Beth Knazook Project Manager at DRI explained what this development can offer researchers:
“DRI has been a leader in developing infrastructure, technical and social support to preserve Irish cultural heritage, humanities and social sciences data since 2015. Member organisations have access to training and guidance to deposit with us, but prior to this pilot, we did not have a clear pathway to capture multi-institutional projects or data from researchers at higher education institutions who may no longer work or study with a member organisation (i.e. graduates of doctoral programs, temporary teaching staff). This pilot will allow us to develop deposit options that benefit the wider research landscape, while also collaborating with NORF funded projects like to the Sonraí Irish Data Stewardship Network to expand support for Open Research generally.”
Dr Aoife Coffey is Research Data Coordinator at University College Cork and Project Lead on Sonraí, the NORF-funded 2022 Open Research Fund Project. She said “Sonraí are really looking forward to collaborating with DRI on this exciting project. It is a great opportunity for researchers to preserve and share valuable research data and other outputs which otherwise may have remained hidden or been lost over time. It is also provides a way for researchers to enhance and develop their knowledge and skills in data management, FAIR data sharing and long-term preservation.”
