Advancing a Shared Direction for Research Assessment: Report Now Available

We are delighted to share that the ‘Advancing a shared direction for research assessment’ report is now available. This report was produced as part of a National Research Integrity Forum (NRIF) and NORF workshop which took place in November 2023.

The event was opened by Professor Anita Maguire, Chair of NRIF, who highlighted the continuum between research assessment, research integrity and open research, highlighting the impact these have on researchers. The workshop featured national and international speakers including Dr Erzsébet Tóth-Czifra, Head of Programme at the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA), Dr Kim Huijpen, Programme Manager at the Dutch national Recognition and Rewards programme, Universities of the Netherlands, and Dr David O’Connell (University College Cork) and Dr Sally Smith (Trinity College Dublin), co-Chairs of the CoARA National Chapter for Ireland.

Drawing on the discussions from the day, the report looks at:

  1. The Responsible Use of Metrics in a changing context
  2. The steps institutions are taking to introduce changes to how research is assessed
  3. The role and support for early career researchers necessary to making lasting change
  4. The importance of research culture in instigating and supporting the reform of research assessment at institutional, national and international levels.
