National Action Plan theme: Theme 3: Enabling FAIR research data and other outputs
Governance: The PI is the current chair of IMBAS. The IMBAS steering group will provide oversight and feedback through the inclusion of a standing agenda item on the project progress as part of its steering committee meetings for the duration of the project.
Overview of the project: Arts practice research is a mode of inquiry in which artistic practice is the primary method and output of a research investigation. Despite its growing recognition as a distinctive mode of inquiry, it continues to face significant challenges concerning appropriate and FAIR ways to disseminate its outputs when compared to more established research traditions.
This project aims to support and develop best practice guidance and training for the FAIR dissemination of arts practice research outputs. Its methods include a case study on the use of a new open access repository by arts practice researchers at University of Limerick, and the compilation of a field report on current dissemination practices in three additional Irish HEIs (Trinity College Dublin, University College Cork and University of Galway). Using this work as a foundation, it will produce technical training support and best practice guidelines for the FAIR dissemination for arts practice research outputs.
Resources and outputs: Outputs of this project will include:
- A case study report on the roll-out of a new open access repository for arts practice portfolios at University of Limerick, linked to a field report, exploring current practices among three additional HEIs (Trinity College Dublin, University College Cork, and University of Galway)
- A technical guidance document for those supporting the FAIR dissemination of arts practice outputs.
- A best practice document on FAIR sharing, with particular reference to issues of evaluation, commercialisation and dissemination of arts practice outputs.
- A symposium on FAIR sharing of arts practice outputs, incorporating a training workshop on technical support.
- An academic article on FAIR sharing of arts practice outputs submitted to an open access journal.
