Sonraí Irish Data Stewardship Network Roadshow – Could you be a Data Steward?
Organiser(s): Sonraí Irish Data Stewardship Network
Abstract
Research data stewardship is a new profession and required skillset in the national landscape. They are key enablers of the transition to an open research landscape facilitating researcher compliance with funder DMP mandates and encouraging FAIR and Open data sharing. As an evolving area of expertise there is no universal definition. It is a role that is influenced by the context and the needs of the researcher or unit, and data stewards can be based in libraries, IT, research support or embedded within research projects. Often those heavily involved in data stewardship or management do not officially have that job title or description.
The workshop aims to raise awareness of the role of data stewards, emphasize the need for data stewardship to support engagement with open research initiatives, highlight the need for an increase in data stewards and data stewardship skills, make connections with peers and help researchers and others recognise activities they engage as data stewardship.
During breakouts session, we will consider the following questions.
- Could you be a data steward?
- Which data stewardship activities do you carry out within your current role?
- What would you like to see a national data stewardship network doing?
