The Importance of CARE in Data Management

As we work towards more ethical, inclusive and responsible data management, the CARE Principles —
Collective Benefit, Authority to Control, Responsibility, and Ethics — offer essential guidance for researchers,
data stewards and publishers. Designed to complement the well-known FAIR Principles, CARE centres Indigenous rights to self-determination and help us address complex issues related to privacy, future use and collective interests, and increase the value of data for reuse. (Carroll, S, et al. 2020)

Who Should Attend?

  • Data stewards and research data managers
  • Academic librarians and IT personnel
  • Research support staff with an interest in data management
  • Researchers working with Indigenous, ethnic, or minority communities
