Lightning Talk Session 2: Achieving 100% Open Access to Research Publications

The National Open Access Monitor Project

Presenter: Dr Catherine Ferris

IReL Open Scholarship Officer, Irish ORCID Consortium Lead and Project Manager for the National Open Access Monitor Project funded under the NORF Open Research Fund 2022

Abstract

As Ireland moves into the next phase of the NORF National Action Plan for Open Research, it is imperative to determine the current state of OA in Ireland, and to monitor how this develops as stakeholder’ investments transition Irish research towards open research. While such analysis is currently underway throughout the sector, it is resource-heavy, time-consuming and often-times dependent on proprietary data sources which leads to silos of data and analysis for single stakeholder benefit. The NORF-funded National Open Access Monitor Project seeks to rectify that by delivering a national dashboard, built on community requirements, that publishes, analyses and tracks progress towards 100% open access, based on fully transparent open data and open infrastructure. This lightning talk will provide a high-level summary and context of the project, and will outline progress and deliverables to date.

As stakeholder engagement is a critical project dependency to ensure all stakeholder research outputs are represented comprehensively and accurately by the Monitor, this lightning talk will also focus on the stakeholder actions required during the Autumn 2023 phase of the project.
