Over the course of a year, the ENGAGED project has convened over 150 participants across Collective Intelligence Workshops, online and in-person, culminating in five public destinations for open research in Ireland by 2030. This is more than a roadmap. It’s a call to action, a community built, co-created with researchers, policymakers, NGOs, funders, citizen scientists and community leaders.

Our five destinations are bold:

Open Access for All; where every publicly funded research output is truly accessible, understandable, and useful to everyone, not just academia.

Meaningful Power Sharing with Communities; embedding the public as equal partners, not just research subjects.

A Research-Literate Nation; where communities and civil society can confidently use, shape, and challenge research.

Infrastructure That Works for Everyone; with systems that support real-world users, not just specialists.

Power Sharing in Research Leadership: giving communities direct influence over what research is funded and how it’s conducted.

The scale of engagement behind this movement is significant: over 14,600 followers on BlueSky and 1,100+ on LinkedIn are part of the growing community advocating for a more equitable and open research culture in Ireland. The full roadmap is coming soon.

Share, follow, and be part of the movement.
