After a report on Irish National Bibliography was submitted to the Irish Association for Documentation in 1962, it was recommended that publications in Ireland be listed in a national bibliography. The compiling, editing, and producing of the Irish Publishing Record (IPR) was initiated under the direction of Ellen Power, College Librarian and Head of School of Librarianship at University College Dublin.
This summer a team of students and staff from the School of Information and Communication Studies created the IPR Publishers Dataset 1967-1994 by transcribing the names and addresses of the publishers listed in the IPR and recorded the years they were active. The dataset is now available on Zenodo (DOI: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.21976685) and has also been deposited in the Digital Repository of Ireland.
The IPR is a great resource for understanding the cultural, social, and political activities and the history of publishing in Ireland.
