The team working on the NORF-funded project, QSA*Net, were pleased to participate in the 51st Sociological Association of Ireland (SAI) Annual Conference at Maynooth University on 10-11 May 2024. The theme of this year’s conference was “Sociological Imagination: Creating Hopeful Futures”. The conference attracted a diverse group of sociologists and scholars to discuss pressing social issues and future possibilities. The QSA*Net team actively participated in this dynamic event, with post-doctoral researcher Dr. Rong Bao presenting a poster on their project. QSA*Net aims to stimulate awareness and participation in open research by promoting practices of data re-use in the qualitative social sciences. The project will research barriers to re-using qualitative data deposited in data infrastructures such as the Digital Repository of Ireland, inform researchers about the analytical potential of Qualitative Secondary Analysis, and build up regional and international network for knowledge exchange. The poster exhibition provided an excellent platform to showcase QSA*Net’s research, engage with other experts, and contribute to the broader sociological dialogue on how open research and data re-use can help create hopeful futures. The team will start recruiting participants for focus group interviews and organising training workshops in the coming months. Please visit their website (QSA*Net | Maynooth University) to keep up to date and get in touch if you are interested.
